Oct to mid june is the season to visit HULIVANA as the rains have either subsided or stopped. The place is verdant & scenic from mid sept to mid jan as the hills are carpeted lush green just after the rains.
Summer is from end of feb to early June, the hill are drier & with relatively less or no rain.
Monsoon: The place is the greenest during monsoon (mid June- end Sep.) & can be captured in its entirety & beauty. Monsoon-springs creates a network of brooks & streams crisscrossing all around. The water falls too cascade in all its fullness. Cirrus, Cumulus & nimbus each moment a spectacular cloud show unfolds outside. Yet this is the wettest months & an inconvienience to even step out not to mention the leeches .Not every traveler will be able to appreciate the monsoon unless one is prepared for the adventure.
it is warm & pleasant during summers (22-25 degree Celsius)yet the nights get cold because of the altitude.
Monsoon and winters are quite chill with temp dipping to 7 degree Celsius at night. However the fireplace in the villas keeps the place warm.
Indeed just like you would find snakes in the outskirts of Bangalore or any other town.
Leeches are found during the monsoon however it is not found in the paths used regularly to the dinning & accommodations.it is also not found in the upper slopes of the hills.
Leeches are usually found to be thriving on dead foliage & in densely wooded areas.
A lil info about leeches
leeches belong to the class Hirudinea of the phylum Annelida. It is characterized by the segmented coelomates; protostomes; primarily fresh-water and terrestrial. The class Hirudinea is subdivided into two orders namely Rhynchobdellae and Arhynchobdellae.
The order Rhynchobdellae comprises those leeches, which have a protrusible proboscis by means of which they suck the blood and juices of their prey.
The order Arhynchobdellae include those species of leeches which are without a proboscis.
There has been no documented evidence of venomous leeches being found in the Western Ghats
The non-venomous leeches are found in fresh water, live on non-poisonous weeds and suck blood from the affected part of human organisms causing very slight discomfort and drops down on its own.
Leech bites don't get infected on its own but sometimes due to scratching persistently with our nails & can be easily treated.
Leeches can easily be warded off by salt pouches, citric juice (lemon, orange ) & tobacco powder.
